Popular Chinese Slang on WeChat, QQ and More

When living and working in China, it's common to see some interesting slang words, especially on APPs such as WeChat and QQ.


Therefore, we have compiled some lists of common internet slang and phrases in China.

Number Slang


  • 213: 2B, means a person who is very stupid.

  • 666: 溜溜溜, good at something, or did something well.

  • 1314: "For ever", usually preceded by a phrase such as "I love you" or whatever. 1314 (pinyin: yīsānyīsì) represents 一生一世 "one life, one world" (pinyin: yīshēng yīshì).

  • 4242: "Yes" or "Affirmative" or "It is", 4242 (pinyin: sìshí'èr sìshí'èr) represents 是啊是啊 (pinyin: shìa shìa).

  • 520: "I love you". 520 (pinyin: wǔ'èrlíng) represents 我爱你 (pinyin: wǒ ài nǐ).

  • 555: "(crying)". 555 (pinyin: wǔwǔwǔ) represents 呜呜呜 (pinyin: wūwūwū) the sound of tearful crying.

  • 7451 or 7456: "I'm angry". 7451 (pinyin: qīsìwǔyī) or 7456 (pinyin: qīsìwǔliù) represents 气死我了 (pinyin: qìsǐ wǒle).

  • 88: "Bye bye" (goodbye). 88 (pinyin: bābā) represents "bye bye" (English). 886 also has the same meaning as "88".

  • 94: "So, but etc." 94 jiǔsì represents 就是 (pinyin: jiùshì), the conjunction meaning "so", "but", "just like", "in the same way as" etc.

  • 995: "Help", "Save me!" 995 (pinyin: jiǔjiǔwǔ) represents 救救我 (pinyin: jiùjiù wǒ).

  • 666: "doing something really well" 666 (pinyin: liùliùliù) represents 溜溜溜 (pinyin:liùliùliù ).

  • 233: "“laughter" 2333 (pinyin:èr sān sānrepresents 哈哈哈 (pinyin: hā hā hā)。

  • 484: "if"(means yes or no)

  • 99: "the wish for couple being together for long time"

Letter Slang


  • LZ: lóu zhǔ, owner of the thread, original poster.

  • BZ: bǎnzhǔ (版主), moderator of an internet discussion forum.

  • GG: gēge (哥哥), literally means older brother, however is used online to compliment other users in their gaming skill.

  • HLL: huá lì lì (华丽丽), glamorous, high-profile.

  • JC: jǐngchá (警察), police.

  • JP: jípǐn (极品), high quality, but used ironically for things that are low quality.

  • PS: photoshopped (picture).

  • WDR: wàidìrén (外地人), stranger, outsider, foreigner.

  • ZG: zhōngguó (中国), China.

  • XSWL: xiàosǐwǒlè (笑死我了), LMAO.

Misc Slang


  • Duang!: Is a word to describe how amazing something is. Gained popularity after a parody video of Jackie Chan's favorite shampoo was released.

  • 你行你上: Literally, "You Can You Up" which is used against people complain about something, but can't do it themselves. "If you can do better, do it yourself".

  • 不作死就不会死: Literally, "No Zuo, No Die", which means if you don't make bad decisions, they won't come back to hurt you.

  • 小鲜肉: Literally, "Young Fresh Meat" is used to describe a boy, aged 15 to 25, that is handsome but innocent.

  • 去浪: Literally, "Go to Surf", which means to hang out.

  • 脱单: Literally, "Off Single", which means to not be single anymore, or to have a boyfriend/girlfriend.
